Michele, this post wasn't directed at you. I have had more than one person tell me what I should/could have done differently in photos of our family. What people seem to not understand about me is that when I post photos of my kids, it means I got the shot that I WANTED to get. I take photos with a purpose, especially of the family.

Vicki: Family photojournalism is kind of what I strive for in a lot of the kids photos. For the most part, I don't want them posed and cheesing for the camera. I want to capture what they are doing, get the moment. Hence the "photojournalistic" part of it. When I say family photojournalism, I am using it in a positive way.

Lew: You totally get it. I want my kids (and eventually grandkids) to be able to look back on photos the way I look back on ones my parents took, and see a "moment" rather than just a "photo".

Could the binky be removed, sure, but then it's a portrait and something that is happening in real life, real time...@ least my take.
I have almost 50 years of photos, which I suppose one could state are photo-journalistic shots, because to me they do tell a story. Are they perfect? You don't get perfection from a six year old using a 127 brownie camera...but I didn't care, I thought it cool. I even posed a few of my shots, that were of my friends. It's a moment in my life that I can go back and revisit, share with others, and remember.
So...these are awesome. They are meant to be something that you can look at and recall that moment more vividly...as well as share with Gabriel when she is older. Moments like these are precious, binky or not.

I think what I really wanted to say, now that I've thought about it is that not every family photo needs to be posed and perfect. That's not real life.

I would not have altered it. It is what it was meant to be... A moment captured that you were drawn to. Photojournalism has its place. I don't feel that a family photo is the place for it.

I understand your point but mine was the photo that you posted that I commented on was a cute one of your little girl and in my opinion the binky ruins it. The other two photos you posted are photo journalistic as you say and having the binky in her mouth doesn't bother me so much. But again it is/was just my opinion.

And believe me, I take plenty of photos that are not technically perfect or even perfect in any sense because I am capturing the memory of the moment.

Really nice, Jerry. Love the colors and the processing. The texture sets it off nicely.
